Senator Natasha and Colleagues Embark on International Study Visit to Enhance Parliamentary Relations

Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and other lawmakers are preparing for an international study visit aimed at strengthening inter-parliamentary relations and enhancing their oversight functions. This initiative was disclosed during a meeting by the Senate Committee on Interparliamentary Affairs on Wednesday.

The study visit, organized by the Senate Committee on Interparliamentary Affairs, aims to observe parliamentary activities, establish ties, and document best practices in other countries. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan highlighted the importance of learning from democratic processes in countries with higher female representation.

In addition to international visits, the lawmakers will conduct oversight functions in State Assemblies to ensure effective governance and accountability. This initiative aligns with the Senate's objectives to build inter-parliamentary relationships within Nigeria and internationally.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, the committee chairman, noted that the lawmakers would interact with state lawmakers, observe their activities, and establish ties with parliaments in other countries. He emphasized the importance of documenting practices that could benefit Nigeria's parliamentary processes.

During an interactive session between the Senate Committee on Appropriation and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Accountant General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also participated to review the performance of the budgets with documentary evidence.
