President Bola Tinubu addressed the nation for ongoing End Bad Government Protest

President Bola Tinubu addressed the nation on August 4, 2024, in response to ongoing protests against economic hardship and governance issues. In his speech, Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians and explained the rationale behind his policies. He highlighted the necessity of removing fuel subsidies and unifying forex windows to tackle the economic mismanagement that has hindered Nigeria's growth for decades. These actions, he stated, were essential to block the profits of smugglers and rent-seekers, and to stop subsidies to neighboring countries that were detrimental to Nigeria's economy.

Tinubu emphasized the government's efforts in rebuilding the economy, noting a significant increase in government revenues and improvements in the non-oil sector. He also mentioned initiatives like the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) program to reduce transportation costs and inflation, and efforts to boost food production by removing tariffs on essential food items and importing mechanized farming equipment.

The President highlighted various programs aimed at supporting the youth, including a student loan scheme and the establishment of the Consumer Credit Corporation. He also mentioned the launch of housing projects and support for micro and small businesses.

Tinubu called for unity and urged Nigerians to avoid violence and destruction, stressing the importance of working together to build a prosperous future. He assured citizens that their concerns were heard and that the government was committed to addressing them.
