FG Approves Zariagi Airstrip Upgrade to International Airport in Kogi State
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has approved the upgrade and revitalization of the Zariagi airstrip in Kogi State, granting it international airport status. The approval, confirmed in an official letter dated October 9, 2024, came in response to a formal request submitted by the Kogi State Government on June 25, 2024.
The letter, addressed to Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, detailed findings from a Ministerial Technical Team that assessed the proposed development. Signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hassana Tai Ejibunu, the document emphasized the Ministry's commitment to working closely with the Kogi State Government to ensure the project’s successful completion.
This significant upgrade is expected to enhance aviation services within Kogi State, fostering both economic growth and improved connectivity. Governor Ododo described the project as a milestone for the state, aiming to position Kogi as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector and to expand both domestic and international travel opportunities.
