Kogi State to Hold Local Government Elections on October 19, 2024


The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has released the comprehensive schedule for the local government elections slated for October 19, 2024.


In a press conference at Reverton Hotel, Lokoja, KOSIEC Chairman Mamman NDA Eri announced the election date and outlined the legal framework empowering the commission. Eri highlighted that the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission is authorized under Section 197 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Kogi State Government's Local Government Election Law 2004, and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).


"We are committed to ensuring inclusivity and adherence to electoral laws," Eri stated. "We present the detailed timetable and schedule of activities to you, the critical stakeholders, for your review and approval."


The election schedule is designed in accordance with the amended 1999 Constitution of Nigeria and the powers vested in the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC). Eri formally presented the timetable, emphasizing its alignment with constitutional provisions and electoral laws.
