Breaking News: Governor Ododo Launches Wet Season Farming in Kogi State

In a bid to eradicate poverty and boost agricultural production, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has flagged off the wet season farming in the state. The launch event, which took place in Geregu, Ajaokuta local government area, saw the distribution of over 100 tractors to serve approximately 10,000 farmers across the 21 local government areas.

Youth and Women Empowerment.

Governor Ododo announced that 75% of the total farmland cleared for cultivation this farming season will be allocated to youth and women farmers. This initiative aims to empower these groups and encourage them to embrace agriculture as a viable source of wealth creation.

Agricultural Development

The Governor emphasized the importance of investing in agriculture, noting that over 90% of the state's land area is arable. He promised to make Kogi a leading state in agricultural production, contributing to Nigeria's economic growth. To achieve this, the state government has invested over 7 billion Naira in farm implements, including tractors, to cultivate 7,324 hectares of land.

Food Security

Governor Ododo reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring food security in the state. He encouraged wealthy individuals to explore opportunities in the agro industry, stressing that his government has procured farm implements for full-scale agricultural mechanization.

Support from the Federal Government

The Governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting agricultural transformation initiatives in the country. He assured that his administration has aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure food security nationwide.

Implementation

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Honourable Timothy Ojoma, noted that the commencement of wet season farming across 79 farm clusters in the state marks a significant step in the agricultural transformation agenda. The farming initiative is expected to boost agricultural production, enhance food sufficiency, and generate economic opportunities for farmers.
