In a significant development, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has announced plans to upgrade the Adogo airstrip to an international cargo airport, marking a major milestone in the state's economic development. The airstrip, which has been inoperative for nearly 20 years, is set to undergo a transformation that will position Kogi State as a key player in the nation's economic growth.

The proposed Kogi State Cargo Airport will be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model between the Kogi State Government and the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC). The project will commence with a feasibility study and stakeholder consultation, followed by the establishment of a project implementation committee to oversee its completion.

Economic Development and Job Creation.

Governor Ododo emphasized the critical importance of the Adogo cargo airport project to the state's economic development, highlighting Kogi State's vast agricultural potential and mineral deposits. The airport will provide a vital link to markets within and outside Nigeria, creating new job opportunities and stimulating economic growth.

Intermodal Transportation System.

The proposed cargo airport will be strategically linked to other gateways of economic activity, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and the Warri-Itakpe-Abuja rail line, once completed. This intermodal transportation system will enhance the economic viability of ongoing road projects, including feeder roads in rural communities, which are critical to the state's agricultural and mineral resources.
