Gov. Yahaya Bello Seek Intervention of FG’s To Okene-Lokoja Road

Gov. Yahaya Bello  Seek Intervention of FG’s To Okene-Lokoja Road

He said "as the main highway connecting the country's north and south, the highway is suffering from heavy traffic and so millions of Nigerians are suffering the deplorable road situation."

The Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello defined the deplorable circumstances of the federal road to Okene-Lokoja as "an eyesore."

The Governor called on the Federal Government to begin extensive rehabilitation on the highway to relieve the traffic of the traffickers.

The State Chief Executive who made the call on Saturday while traveling to Okene revealed that in fiscal year 2017/2018 his administration had intervened in highway maintenance.
But he lamented that owing to heavy vehicle traffic on the highway, such maintenance could not stand the test of time.

The governor added that apart from the "continual damage caused by heavy cars to the highway," the state government could not sustain maintenance owing to the lack of resources.

The Governor, who expressed his disappointment with the hardship that the commuters were going through on that road, said they were citizens who fulfilled their civic rights by electing their leaders at all levels of government, so "don't deserve to spend days on the trip that they would have made in hours."

Governor Bello appealed as a matter of urgency to the Honorable Minister of Works and Housing to examine the Lokoja-Okene-Ekiti highway situation.
